Attention Shap Residents of Croft Avenue, Terrace and Gayle Avenue

With support from the National RSPCA, we've successfully relocated a large number of cats from a local property. These cats will soon be living their best lives as barn cats, once they've been neutered and vaccinated.

However, we've noticed, that some cats are now being fed elsewhere in the area—and new, unneutured tomcats are already moving in to claim territory. This has led to fights and injuries. Unneutured males are often unvaccinated, putting local pet cats at risk of serious illness.

To help manage the local cat population and protect the health of all cats in the area, we're offering subsidised neutering and microchipping for residents on the following benefits: Universal Credit, PiP, or Pension Credit.

Here's what you need to know:

If you live on one of the named streets, we'll cover the cost of neutering and chipping your cat at one of three participating local vets.

Your only contribution is:

  • £10 for a male cat (tom)
  • £15 for a female cat (queen)

You must transport your cat to the appointment and show proof of your benefits at the vet.

If you're aware of an unowned cat—especially a tom—and can help safely trap it, please reach out. We're also looking for people interested in giving a barn home to one of the relocated cats.

This project is fully funded by our local RSPCA branch, and we receive no funding from the National RSPCA—so donations are always very welcome. You can donate via our Facebook page or website.

Participating vets:

  • Pendragon (Kirkby Stephen)
  • Highgate Vets (Kendal)
  • Westmorland Vets (Kendal)
